the 24th ultimo, reporting that the sum of $30000 had
been voted by the Colony for the provision of a more efficient defence for Hong Kong against torpedo craft:
I am directed to say that Lord Lansdowne will be obliged
if Mr.Chamberlain will now issue the necessary instruc-
tions so that the amount available may be handed over to
the local military authorities.
